association for science in autism treatment
www.asatonline.org
ASAT is a not-for-profit organization of parents and professionals committed to improving the education, treatment, and care of people with autism. Since autism was first identified, there has been a long history of failed treatments and fads, levied on vulnerable individuals as well as on their families. From the scandal of the â??refrigerator motherâ?? theory, to the ongoing parade of â??miracle curesâ?? and â??magical breakthroughs,â?? history has been dominated by improbable theories about causation and treatments. Many of these treatments have been too quickly adopted by professionals, too readily sensationalized by the media, and too hastily embraced by hopeful consumers â?? well before supporting evidence or reasonable probability existed for their effectiveness or safety. Since ASAT was established in 1998, it has been our goal to work toward adopting higher standards of accountability for the care, education and treatment of all individuals with autism.

We Are a group of parents and professionals in N.W. Indiana who have, or work with, children diagnosed with autism, ASDs (Autism Spectrum Disorders) or PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified). Our Goal is to provide accurate information, support, resources, and hope for Indiana families of children with autism. Our Objectives are 1) to promote understanding and use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)/Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB) as effective treatments for autism, 2) to facilitate early identification and diagnosis, 3) to educate medical, educational, political and lay communities about autism, and 4) to help Indiana families stay informed regarding legislative issues affecting individuals with autism and their families.
